Cañada de la Virgen is a pre-Columbian settlement considered the border between Mesoamerica and Aridoamerica, the main monuments were utilized to observe the cosmos. A main example of this is the sunken patio in the basement known as the House of the 13 Skies.
The zone was built in the middle of surrounding canyons that served as a natural protective wall, the zone also includes a natural pond and piping made of quarry stone. Its urban trace reflects the cosmic cycles to which the agricultural groups were connected. These groups were also hunters and gatherers in the surrounding semi-desert regions. Additionally, they engaged in trade with other Mesoamerican regions and used some of these objects for ritualistic activities.
Studies conducted by archaeologists tell us that this place has Tolteca influence and that it was inhabited by the Otomi people and later the Chichimecas that would also populate San Miguel De Allende.
